The Dianchi Lake, also called ‘Kunming Lake’, ‘Kunming Pond’, and ‘Southern Lake of Yunnan’ during ancient times, is a plateau lake with beautiful scenery; it is about 1,886 meters (6,187.7 feet) above sea level. The lake water and the sky seem joining mutually, dense mist is on the surface of the lake, and sails are strolling above the water. Dianchi Lake (Dianchi), 370 square kilometers in area, 44 meters deep, and 1,885 meters in elevation, is the eighth largest lake in China and the largest in Yunnan Province. It is also the sixth largest freshwater lake in China, also known as Kunming Lake or Kunming Pond, was formed by the subsidence of a fault zone. It is a highland lake, much treasured both in the light of Kunming’s perennial spring weather and the splendid scenic beauty of the Lake District. The lake is crescent-shaped, about 39 kilometers (24 miles) in length and 13 kilometers (8 miles) in width at its widest. Its natural banks are formed by mountains on all four sides. More than twenty rivers nurture the lake which has a shoreline of 163.2 kilometers (101 miles). Four surrounding hills contribute to the picturesque landscape, making visitors intoxicated and linger around. Rising in the southwestern part of the Chengdu Plain in Emeishan City, Mount Emei is called the “mountain of brightness” in Buddhism together with Plant Kingdom , Animal Paradise , Geological Museum, Heaven of Buddhism, and Beauty Spot under Heaven etc. The most spectacular scenery is the sunrise, the sea of clouds, the Buddha halo, and the saint light. It is fairly abundant in natural resources and cultural heritages. There used to be over 100 temples and halls on the mountain, but only some 20 still stand. The Emei Mountain is a very large scenic spot however private vehicles are not allowed to drive up the mountain. Private vehicles are required to park at the foot of the mountain and tourists travel to the Godden Summit or Wannian Temple by public bus leaving from the Passenger Transport Center. Please notice that the road up to the mountain is quite bumpy. We suggest you take motion-sickness medicine before get on the bus if you suffer from car-sickness.

Mt. Emei has a long history. According to the archaeological material, people in remote ancient times have lived in this place. As early as 5,000 years ago, the Emperor Xuanyuan paid two visits to the mountain to learn Tao thoughts. 1,900 years ago, a practitioner built the first monastery in the mountain, thus marked the Emei the birthplace of Buddhism in Yangtze Valley. Today the Buddhist culture has become the main body of Emei Culture. The Buddhist architecture, music, grottos and paintings in the mountain all reflect rich religious flavor and culture.

Located in a canyon at the foot of the Mountain Heng in the province of Shanxi, and built in the later period of the Northen Wei Dynasty (368 – 534), the Hanging Temple hung in mid-air is a rare piece of architecture of its kind in China. It was listed as one of the 10 top architectural wonders of the world by the Time Magazine in Dec. 2010. The existing 400-hall/house/building/pavilions, all of wooden structure, are scattered around in different secluded spots or on steep cliffs between 26 and 50 meters from the bottom up. The monastery is founded during the Northern Wei period (386-584) in the 6th century, boasting a history of over 1,400 years. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is a sanctuary for rare animals and wild plants. In fact, one fourth of all plant species in China can be found here and 20 primeval forest communities shelter a big family of 400 types of trees and 30 kinds of animals which are protected by the state. These species live in different temperature levels and create different kinds of views. The 13 peaks, which have the altitudes of at least 4,000 meters, are covered by snow all year round; the mountain is also called the "Natural Glacier Museum" for it has all types of glacier. Move down from the mountaintop and you can see rivers and pools, which are formed by the thawed snow water running along the valley and through the forests. The plants and the animals are different according to the altitude, so are the views. Every sight brings you a surprise and every step takes you to a new scene.  Each of the meadows on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain has its own special character due to their different landscape and height. For instance, Yunshanping (Spruce Plateau) is grassland with gigantic spruces whilst Ganhaizi (Dry Sea) used to be a highland lake as its name tells, the meadow was formed after the water had dried up.

The mountain is a holy mountain for the Naxi (also spelt Nakhi and Nahi) people, a soul of the tribe. Allegedly, the Naxi tribe believed that their Genius "Sanduo" was the god of mountain, living on the Jade Dragon Mountain. Legends say whenever the Naxi people fought with their enemy, he always appeared, with white face like the snow, wearing white helmet and white armor, riding a white horse, holding a white spear, to help the Naxi soldiers to defeat the enemy. Naxi warriors must sacrifice the "Sanduo" god before they went to battle. On the slope of the mountain lies a "Sanduo Temple" where the Genius "Sanduo" of the Naxi people is worshipped.
